Sea Sisters X Sky Sports X Copa90 X Southampton FC

Sea Sisters were commissioned by Sky Sports and Copa90 to create a can of British Conservas to celebrate Southampton's successful season and promotion to England's top division, the Premier League. Southampton is Angus' boyhood club.

Canned Fish & Football - Get Tin!

We used a fish that commonly lands in The Solent; a strait between the Isle of Wight and mainland Great Britain; the major historical ports of Southampton and Portsmouth lie inland of its shores. The fish species for this project is the Thornback Ray, also known as Skate. This is a playful reference to our rival team, Portsmouth.

Why Skate?

Southampton fans call Portsmouth supporters 'Skates' due to a historical maritime reference to presumably apocryphal tales of Royal Navy sailors relieving their sexual frustrations using fish. Portsmouth call Southampton fans Scummers! Eating Skate to celebrate Southampton's success is playful and tongue in cheek!

The Skate is poached and persevered in butter. During the cooking phase the milk solids/cream and the fat in the butter split from each other and the cream naturally rises to the top. This represents last season's promotion and Southampton rising to the prem.

We have added foraged British sea herbs, Rock Samphire and Sea Purslane. The foraged British sea herb represents Southampton's admirable scouting and youth development department.
